How much arable land is on your plate?

On the left: lentil stew, to the right: sausage.

How much arable land is needed for a bratwurst with fries? Or for a portion of spaghetti with tomato sauce? On our field in Berlin we grow the ingredients for many different dishes according to the space required.

How many square metres for which meal? At first we guess, then we do the math!

Bratwurst mit Pommes

growing here: bratwurst with fries

The small and large beds show everything you need for each meal: From oats and strawberries for muesli, to the feed for pigs and potatoes, zucchini and lentils for a vegan stew. The seemingly small differences in our daily diet become extremely obvious on the field.

The sunflowers on the field are almost in bloom already.

We are also growing soy to show the amount of animal feed that goes into a meat-based diet.

There is a lot to discover on the field.

On July 21 we had our first a special tour on the field.  From now on, you can come along and find out how much arable land your diet requires and ask questions during our events. If you have specific questions about nutrition and land use, you can also send us an email to carla[at]2000m2.eu . Here is how to get to the field.
